Research into Camera Work

This post will show our study of different types of shots used in media, it will include a detailed analysis of each shot, their name and an example of said shot.

Extreme long shotAn extreme long shot is usually one with plenty of things to see. Taken from afar to allow the shot to catch as much of a characters surroundings. Mostly used to establish an environment or to show the surroundings, or in some cases could even be used to show how small the character is in comparison to its surroundings.

Long shot- This shot shows the full body, the focal point is the character taking up a lot of the shot and nearly touching the frames of the shot, this shot still allows for some view of the characters surroundings.

Medium Shot- The medium shot shows the character from the waist up, this sort of shot is usually taken after the background has already been established. This shot is used a lot for characters interraction.
Medium Close up- This shot is used to get closer to the character, and begins to lose most of the detail in the background. This is the marginal gap between the Medium shot and close up. Often used to show expression closely to the character whilst still showing some background.

Close up- This shot is used to show the characters full facial expression in very close detail, this type of shot shows almost no background, this shot involves showing the characters full head not touching the frames of the shot.
Big Close up- This shot is used to show the characters face in extreme detail, cutting off parts of the head in the shot, this is a more intimately close shot to the character.

Extreme Close up- This is used to show a specific detail, a common use is to show the expression in someone's eyes with an extreme close up, this shot shows absolutely no background.
Worms eye view- This view is from the ground pointing up, usually used to show a character in a position of power, or a fearsome character.
Birds Eye view- This shot is from above the character pointing down, used as either an artistic feature or to show a character in a weaker position.
Canted Angle- This type of shot is slanted, this is used to express that something going on in the scene is wrong, or something is inbalanced. Very common in Horrors.

  1. You need to add description to the pictures and finish adding the photos. Also you need to add on the videos of the camera shots and the name of the shots need to have titles.
